The Role of Chaplains

This year, at least 20,000 people will walk through the doors of Egbe Hospital along with the 400 students that are on the campus of the ECWA College of Nursing and Midwifery.

Many of these people do not know Christ in a personal way, making the hospital and school an incredible opportunity to share the love of Christ while meeting the health and training needs of this rural population.

Your financial & prayer support provides eternal impact through the Hospital and College’s Chaplaincy Department.

Each day, the hospital’s team of five dedicated Chaplains:

  • Conduct morning devotions in the outpatient department and on the wards. Take time to pray with each patient.
  • Sit by the hospital bedside of many patients. Provide comfort to families.
  • Encourage patients in their own language.

For many, it is the first time they will witness God’s love in action.

Responding to the diverse needs of the patient community, the chaplaincy team includes:

  • A chaplain that ministers to the Fulani and Hausa populations who come from remote areas of the bush.
  • A female chaplain who provides counseling to female patients and students.
  • A chaplain dedicated to counseling and screening patients living with HIV through the Spring of Life HIV Center.

Senior chaplains not only focus on the patients but provide discipleship and mentorship to staff through Bible studies, daily devotions, and weekly services.

What a privilege it is for our college Chaplain to introduce young adults from varying backgrounds to Christ through morning devotions, Biblical curriculum, and study groups!

Voices raised in song can be heard regularly coming from the Chapel of Blessing located within the medical complex as students and staff gather throughout the week to worship.

Teaching the students to share their faith as medical professionals sets this Nursing College apart from other institutions in Nigeria.

Last year alone, the Chaplaincy team shared the Gospel with 12,829 people and followed up on 782 patients that had been discharged from the hospital!

Your prayers and financial gifts provide the resources and training that enable the chaplains to continue this incredibly important work.
