Serving Through Training and Mentoring in Egbe Nigeria

“This is what medical mission trips are all about; being God’s, earthly, human arms of love and compassion to those that are hurting and sharing the peace of the Gospel. What a pleasure. What a responsibility. It’s both an incredible joy and privilege to share God’s love through medicine and friendship.”

This was the heartwarming comment of one of the volunteers on a recent trip to work with the team that live and serve at Egbe Hospital and at the ECWA College of Nursing Sciences in Egbe, Nigeria.

It was a very productive and encouraging trip to see the progress since our October 2022 visit and to see first-hand the results of your support described below:

  • Accompany a team of nurses and nurse educators who participated in International Nurses Week, taught on the wards, provided classroom lectures, participated in clinics, and did medical outreach in the community and settlements in the bush.
  • Further our biomed internship program, assess all the medical equipment, and identify future needs with our 3-person biomed team from the USA.
  • Have representatives of SIM Canada and SIM Nigeria visit the Hospital and College and see the impact of multiple Egbe ministries.
  • Explore opportunities to provide much-needed power to the medical complex as country power becomes increasingly less reliable and more expensive.
  • Participate in the Hospital and College Board meetings for ongoing strategic and operational planning and governance.
  • Attend a dinner hosted at the palace attended by the Elegbe (king), chiefs, community members, Hospital and College leadership to affirm community relationships.
  • Plan for the next six months as we complete the academic campus of the College and get ready for the construction of a surgical center and male ward to start later this year.

Your partnership is what supports the mission’s vision to share the love of Christ as we provide medical and training excellence in a rural environment ensuring sustainability through mentorship and technology.

Thank you for being such an integral part of this amazing mission! Enjoy a couple of pictures from our trip below.
