Different Cultures Sharing the Same Easter Story of Hope

On Palm Sunday many Christians walked throughout the town of Egbe, Nigeria, with palm branches to sing and celebrate the beginning of Holy Week. The walk ended with a service beneath the shade of several trees, where a truck—covered with palm branches and equipped with loudspeakers—served as the pulpit.

As we approach Easter, I can’t help but think that the heart of Easter—Sacrificial Love and Healing, beautifully mirrors that of medical missions, bringing life and hope where there was once suffering and despair.

Easter celebrates Christ’s resurrection—love conquering death, and hope rising from despair. Medical missions carry that same spirit into places of deep need, often where healthcare is limited or non-existent, offering healing, compassion, and new life. That’s the Gospel in action.

Jesus healed as He taught, caring for body, mind, and soul. Medical missionaries follow His example, meeting both physical and spiritual needs with love in action.

The hope of the resurrection fuels service in hard places. Each life touched at Egbe Hospital and the College of Nursing— saving mothers in childbirth, treating malaria, restoring eyesight, or training local health workers—is a glimpse of that greater story of redemption. Every patient helped is a small echo of the resurrection story.

Easter is the why behind medical missions. The love shown on the cross and the power of the resurrection become the heartbeat of healing ministries around the world.

Easter reminds us why we serve: love heals, and hope lives on.

As you spend time with loved ones this Easter weekend, we’re grateful for your faithful heart and ongoing support of medical missions at Egbe Hospital and around the globe.
