Helping The Future of Nursing
From Scholarship to Stethoscope: You Make Their Dreams Possible
It was an amazing and life-changing opportunity when I was selected for the scholarship.
Imagine standing at graduation, tears streaming, unable to speak. You remember every sacrifice that brought you here and the years when dreams seemed unobtainable luxuries. This diploma means more than a degree. It means an accepted professional credential, a reliable income, and the chance to give your family a different future thanks to someone you have never met.
For scholarship graduates from the ECWA College of Nursing Sciences, Egbe, this isn’t imagination, it’s their story, made possible by your generosity.
Launched in 2023, the Egbe Medical Mission (EMM) Student Scholarship Program covers everything a nursing or midwifery student needs to complete their training. This month, 460 young men and women are competing for one of the 125 spots available to new students entering the college. Those accepted are Nigeria’s next generation of Christ-centered caregivers, but many can’t afford the journey without your help. For many students, the Scholarship Program is vital for their success.
In the past two years, 21 students have benefited from the EMM Student Scholarship and 8 of them are now working at the hospital, giving back to the very community that lifted them up and helped them fulfill their dreams.
Help Train Nigeria's Next Nursing Class
The Hidden Nursing Crisis: Hunger
At the ECWA College of Nursing Sciences in Nigeria, students are training to become the nation’s future nurses. They study long hours, driven by the hope of building a stable future in a country facing deep economic hardship.
But many are going through college with only one meal a day.
A single day of meals in the school cafeteria costs N3,000 (US$1.94).* But, for a student with no income and parents already struggling to pay school fees, daily meals are often out of reach.
*While a day of meals cost may seem modest, it becomes staggering when students have no income while studying and upon graduation the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria reports the average nurse in the country earns not less than N135,000 (US$86.88) monthly.
Shaping the Future of Healthcare
For just $180, you can provide consistent meals for one student for three months of their studies. That’s three months of strength, focus, and stability. Three months of restored health and peace of mind for both students and their families.
Together, with mission-minded partners and donors like you, we can ensure that these future nurses are nourished and equipped to serve thousands more in their community.
Thank you for your support, your generosity today directly shapes the future of healthcare in Nigeria, and the lives of these students.
