An ECWA Hospital Egbe Construction Update from Egbe, Nigeria

John Schultz, Construction Manager gives an Egbe Medical Mission construction update in Egbe, Nigeria.

“Along with Samaritan’s Purse and other organizations, the revitalization continues right here at the hospital. Many projects have been ongoing and some have now been completed and operations continue.

Our nutrition kitchen is now able to serve over a 100 meals three times a day to several of the patients here that need that help. Many of our patients come in with malnutrition or other concerns that need specific meals or don’t have the finances available to provide for themselves. Our nutrition kitchen is staffed by not only wonderful cooks, but also those that are able to minister to the patients in their own native tongue as well. The men’s ward is a huge project that continues and the roof is now going on. This is a major milestone in this project as this continues to allow us to work indoors as we plaster the walls, put tile on the floors, and look into what furniture and designs need to happen to maintain the operations here at the hospital.

Various other projects also continue such as our neonatal intensive care unit or NICU. The building is complete. The roof is on and the tile work will soon begin. Here at the hospital, we have many twins and premature babies that are born that need additional care and this NICU will provide for specialized care and equipment and training for those nurses and doctors that will be able to care for those babies in the future.

We are also excited that our housing continues to expand as we complete the duplex that’s been worked on for many months now. We will soon have doctors or staff moving into that housing to provide for safe and effective care here at the hospital. We’re looking into continued housing options as well in other areas in town. And we appreciate your prayers and support as we consider those options and figure out what works best to keep the staff here safe and provide the best care possible for the patients. As the staff here at the hospital continues to expand, the need for quality offices, furniture, and meeting spaces is always a demand.

Our administration building is going to double in size very soon to allow for those additional staff and the expansion of capabilities that we have here at the hospital, including human resources and marketing and purchasing being allowed to continue to expand as well.

The surgical center that’s been completed now for some time is getting the furniture, the beds, the curtains, and various systems that it needs to be in full operation to provide for the care for patients. Very soon, we’ll have a world medical mission team coming with surgeons and doctors to provide for specialized orthopedic care and patients will be able to use that ward for their recovery. We’re excited for that new opportunities there as the rainy season continues here in Egbe, Nigeria.

We constantly have to do maintenance and repairs on our dam, on the roads, and many other areas around the hospital complex.

We are blessed to be able to receive so much support from so many people around the world. And we do ask that you continue to provide that support through your prayers and through your giving that helps us provide for the needs here in Nigeria. Thank you so much for that opportunity to share this new update with you.”
